Spray Tan Preparation/Aftercare

Thank you for booking in for a spray tan with us!

When you take the time to get a spray tan, you want it to last the distance and look fabulous for as long as possible. You could get the best spray tan in the world, but without the right prep, you just won’t get the results you’re looking for. For truly glowing results, it’s all about the prep and these are some of the best ways to prepare your body for your tan.

SCRUB, SCRUB, SCRUB

Your spray tan colours the top layer of skin and you need to make sure your skin has been exfoliated so new, healthy skin is being treated. Exfoliating will not only get rid of dead skin cells, it will also clear your body of any dirt or debris which could block your spray tan. Start your exfoliating regime in the week leading up to your tan to leave a perfect, smooth canvas.

SLATHER ON THE MOISTURISER

Moisturising your body regularly in the week leading up to your tan will mean your skin is in the best condition possible for your appointment. Every evening, take the time to nourish your body and pay particular attention to dry areas such as elbows, hands, ankles, and feet. It’s especially important to moisturise if exfoliating is making your skin dry as flaky skin doesn’t equal a good tan.

HAIR REMOVAL AHEAD OF TIME

If you’re planning to shave, wax or undergo any other hair removal, make sure you do it at least 48 hours before going in for your spray tan. Also, if you leave hair removal until after your tan, you could accidentally remove your colour.

LEAVE YOUR SKIN BARE ON THE DAY

Although moisturising your skin is important in the lead up to your tan, keep your skin free of any moisturisers, perfume, or deodorant on the day. Applying products to your skin can form a barrier, which means the tanning product won’t penetrate properly, so leave your skin bare before going in for your appointment.

KEEP IT LOOSE AND COMFY

When you turn up for your tan, remember that you don’t need to dress to impress. Avoid tight clothing and wear something loose and comfortable so your tan won’t rub off. Your tan needs time to develop and you don’t want to get a great tan only to find that it’s rubbed off too soon. It’s also a good idea to wear dark-coloured clothing. You don’t want to ruin your favourite white shirt.

SPRAY TAN AFTERCARE

If you have questions or concerns please get in touch with us on 07 5528 1533.

  • Do not shower for at least 6 to 8 hours after the spray tan solution has been applied. This waiting period allows maximum tanning solution absorption for the skin.
  • After the waiting period has passed, shower in warm water (it should not be too hot) and use a light, gentle body wash. The bronzer will run out, and when the water is no longer brown, pat dry yourself with a towel.
  • Avoid activities that will make you sweat. This means no exercises, sports, dancing or jogging. You should also avoid the sun to prevent sweating. Sweating creates streaks in the tan.
  • Spray tan before and after care involves avoiding chlorinated swimming pools that easily react with the tanning solution and cause an uneven fade.
  • Moisturising the skin daily will help make the tan last longer, as well as help it to fade evenly.
  • Do not use lotions or creams on your skin which contain Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA’s) or Glycolic Acid as they exfoliate the skin. Use a gentle body wash.
  • Once you have bathed after the tanning session (after 6-8 hours), only then should you use perfumes, deodorants and makeup.
  • Do not touch your body while your spray tan is drying off. This can leave finger prints on your body!
